Cannabis merch guide

Custom cannabis merch: the complete guide

Cannabis brands are most of what we print. This is the practical playbook we walk clients through - what to make, which method fits your art, how to budget, and how to keep it consistent as you reorder. When you’re ready to price it out, the cannabis merch page takes you straight into the tool.

Start with who’s wearing it

Most cannabis merch falls into three jobs, and each one points to different pieces:

  • Staff. Budtender tees and embroidered polos or hats that look sharp on the floor and survive real shifts. (We go deep on this in the dispensary staff apparel guide.)
  • Retail. Tees, hoodies, and hats customers actually pay for at the counter or on your webstore - treat these like product, not swag.
  • Promo & events. Giveaways for vendor days, 4/20, and sponsorships, where budget-per-piece matters more than margin.

Which print method fits cannabis art

Your artwork decides the method more than anything:

  • Screen printing is the best price-per-piece on bigger runs and bold, few-color logos - the default for retail tees and hoodie drops. It also unlocks specialty inks (puff, metallic, glow) that make a drop feel special.
  • Embroidery is the premium look for hats, beanies, and polos, and it holds up for years - ideal for staff and higher-end brand pieces.
  • DTF prints full color with no per-color setup, so photographic strain art, gradients, and small batches all make sense here.

Not sure which your design needs? The print-methods guide breaks down each one, and every order gets a human art review before we charge anything.

Budgeting & minimums

Pricing comes down to quantity, method, colors, and the garment - and with us it’s all-in, so setup, screens, and ink are already in the per-piece number you see. Bigger runs bring the per-piece price down. Everyone pays our wholesale pricing already, so there is no rate to unlock. If you’re reselling merch or ordering for multiple locations, a wholesale account adds tax-exempt resale with Michigan Form 3372 and blind shipping, so orders can go straight to your stores or customers. Want the full breakdown of what moves the number? See the pricing guide.

The blanks cannabis brands actually pick

Dispensary merch lives or dies on the blank - it has to feel like streetwear, not a giveaway shirt. The go-tos we print most: the Shaka Wear max-heavyweight drop-shoulder tee for the boxy, heavy drop look; the Comfort Colors 1717 when you want that broken-in garment-dyed feel; the Lane Seven heavyweight when you need the heavy look at a friendlier price; and the Lane Seven premium hoodie for cold-month drops. On headwear it’s the Richardson 112 trucker and cuffed beanies, both embroidered. Save the true budget tees for event giveaways - your counter merch deserves better.

Keep it on-brand - and a note on compliance

Save your art to an account and every reorder starts from the real files, so your logo and colors stay consistent drop to drop. On compliance: rules for cannabis packaging and marketing vary by state and change often, and apparel is generally lower-risk than packaging - but your compliance team knows your market’s specifics, so keep merch brand-focused and run anything you’re unsure about past them. We’ll print what you approve.
